iPhone 3GS backup and sync I need a genius to help with this! PLEASE HELP!!! ?

Backing up iPhone on laptop

Can someone please help me!

My iPhone back up zapped all the space on my lap top. As a result I can not sync the phone on the lap top. There is still a little space on the phone. When I try to sync a message says synch failed as not enough space on hard drive.

I decided to move my back up to an external hard-drive. I followed the instructions on the Apple website and created a back up to my external hard-drive. When I tried to sync all my audio was missing and the message still came back to me that there is not enough room on the laptop! 

I since read that the method given on the apple website does not take account of the audio etc stuff already held on the hard drive.

I thought i'd use another lap top and sync to that instead. Unfortunately I still have all the old files audio / outlook etc. on my first lap top (my phone does not hold all my files as there is not enough space on it).

I now need a solution. There is absolutely nothing I can delete off the first lap top to free up space as it is all iPhone stuff.

Can someone please help me I desperately need to back up my phone.
