Dell XPS laptop (Windows 7) not recognizing iPhone 4S ?

I keep getting "USB Device Not Recognized."

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

I have uninstalled the USB drivers and restarted my computer; I still have the problem.
