can't reinstall win 7 using previously made recovery disks ?

I can't install win 7 using the 2 recovery disks made previously. THe reinstallation goes along fine (or so it seems), and then at a certain point, it says it can't go any farther, but says to continue, press any key. When I do press a key, I get a command prompt, x windows system 32 . What am I supposed to do except curse the jerks who created SP1 which caused all these problems to begin with? THanks, and to make things worse, this is not my computer that crashed on me, so I am all the more desperate!
