Resolved Question
Virus causing a Generic Host Process for Win32 Error: ?
ADVERTISEMENTS
Hi,
When I log on to my computer I get a message saying "Generic Host Process For Win32 Services Encountered A Problem and needs to close". I'm pretty sure it's from a virus because I've run several Antivirus and Malware programs, have found and cleaned up several, but they are not getting everything or unable to remove certain files, and the problem persists. I've run AVG, SpyBot, Malwarebytes, AdAware and Microsoft Antivirus and have not been able to get rid of everything. I'm running XP SP3.
Here are some of the symptoms:
-I keep having the Generic Host Process for Win32 error.
-My display alters from the XP window style to the old grey one from Windows 2000.
-I can access the internet but it is very slow and every so often a new tab opens with an ad for things like Google Work from Home, Radio Shack, etc.
-I lose my audio upon startup and have to go to Services and have it re-started.
-Sometimes when I startup my laptop it displays my desktop background but doesn't load anything else and locks up, causing me to have to manually turn off my system and reboot.
-And the most frustrating one, when I try to get on to the Microsoft Update website, the page will not load and I get the "can not connect to the server" message.
I ran a check to see if it was a Conficker worm, but it said my system was clear of one.
Any help with this would be much appreciated. My system is operational right now, but I know it's only a matter of time before it completely crashes. Thanks.
