insert disc error for dvd drive ?

Hi,

I have tried everything to get my dvd/cd drive to read cd's/dvd's it keeps spitting out the disc and telling me "insert disc"
I have gone to the computer management and although it is there, it states no media and it isn't active.
I have tried redownloading the drivers, but it just tells me that the drivers are up to date.

what to do?
Please help!

To me it seems like some hardware fault.
