why does my computer hang only when i use windows operating system where as it does not hang when i work in linux operating system?

i got two operating systems installed on my computer. windows xp and linux mandriva.
when i log in to xp it freezes up instantly, sometimes after five minutes or ten min or half hour, whereas when i use linux it does not have this hanging problem.
please help me
