computer desktop icon problem ?

Hello sir,
I am facing a problem that when i install any programm on my computer , its shortcut comes with double identical icons.
and when i delete any one of them both are deleted.
even when i make new folder on desktop same thing happen (two indetical new folders)
plz help me out
i have windows xp professional sp2 on my computer

itsonlyme 		Two things here. You can get windows to simultaneously drop icon on both current logged User and to the 'All Users' settings. This makes 2 icons on the desktop. Easy to check. When you right click on desktop and select 'Arrange icons...' , the current users stuff will be in Alphabetical order' on the screen. The 'All Users' Icon will be at the end of that listing.
However, there are lots of pirate, trojans and so on, that just have fun messing the user about and doing other things. So, my advise is to virus scan first, normally solves problem.
If you download anything, scan it first. Never install it without scanning.
