First of all, is you DVDCD drive in good working order? This causes all sorts of problems.
If you have had a few errors while using it for anything, then scrap it and get a new one.
Hard Drive:
Is it internal or external drive. Are you streaming the Operating System to that drive?
Is the Hard Drive of the right spec for that computer. Need to make sure.
You also need to know if there is an error on your hard drive. Best bet is to format it first elsewhere on a clean virus free system. if there are errors the format procedure will block them out and use the sections available only, You will notice different capacity in the drive. If there are errors given by the format program, my suggestion is to throw the drive away and get yourself a new one and format that, irrespective. The drives are cheap enough.
If on the other hand if it is your computer, it could well be that the BIOS may have a problem. That is easily solved by pressing whatever key is assigned for that computer whilst it is booting up just after you switch it on. Just check whether it's been set up for various drives and its in the list of what is to boot up and how. Don't alter anything else.
Hope this helps in some small way.
